Mark your calendars for the 2nd week of June 2026 and 2027!
OR2026 online 8-11 June 2026 The 2026 Open Repositories conference will be held online 8-11 June, and registration will open in early April. We plan to charge a registration fee of $50 to attendees from "high income" countries as defined by the World Bank<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Bank_high-income_economy#List_of_high-income_economies_(for_2026_fiscal_year)> in order to support event platform costs. Registration for attendees from all other countries will be free.
I'm hearing rumors that the Free-for-Teachers version of Canvas <https://www.instructure.com/canvas-free-for-teacher/orientation> - the one where you can just sign up online and start using it - is going to be "sunsetted," possibly as early as April 2026.
I can't find anything public about this online. Has anyone else heard anything?
If anyone has additional info, please reach out: [log in to unmask] I'd love to get a sense of who all might be affected by this potential change, along with any other information folks might happen to have.
Btw, in case anyone is following along here - I reached out to Instructure with this question and received the below response. I seem to remember being involved with quite a lot of nonprofit organizations that promote OER and provide OA resources - and some of them use Canvas because it means being able to share them on Canvas Commons. I don't know what this means for "business, government, and partner organizations" - which would include consortia, Open Ed orgs, etc.
